Family Preservation
Strengthening Families in Catacamas through Family Preservation
Belkis lived in our residential home for 11 years with her sister because of extreme poverty and malnutrition. Belkis always had a dream—to have her own family and her own house. Today, Belkis has both. She is married with a daughter and has a new home thanks to our Family Preservation program. “Building Dreams” partners with a family, a local church, the community, and our donors to restore or build a home for a family.
At Family Life Missions, we believe in the power of family preservation by providing support to vulnerable children and families in Catacamas, Honduras. In a country of 9.2 million, with 62% living below the poverty line, there is a dire need for safe and healthy housing that includes concrete floors. Many homes have dirt floors, so pouring concrete floors lessens the likelihood of disease. According to a World Bank Study, concrete floors show a 78% reduction in parasitic infections, 81% reduction in anemia, and 36-96% reduction in cognitive development.
We also help preserve families through parenting workshops, nutrition resources, a holistic care center, and spiritual guidance. We seek to support families and provide nourishing family settings for vulnerable children and families because healthy families create strong, dynamic communities.
When a family is preserved, we know that it is at the heart of God and is transformational in a child's life. Giving resources to families and walking with them can change a family tree forever.
