A Trip Where We Belong
by Jose Chinchilla Honduras National Director
We have finished a great adventure on our recent trip to the United States of America. This visit had a different flavor than the others we have participated in. It was a trip with a lot of learning, visiting donors, strengthening relationships, and some fun! We are grateful to God for allowing us to have these opportunities to grow in leadership, to meet people who support us in this beautiful ministry in which we can serve together, to see again the members of the board of directors–committed, loving, and sustaining us in their decisions to serve our children of Honduras,. And not least, meeting the family of our executive director, Lisa Steele. They are a kind, committed, God-given, and very united family. As you can see, it was a journey full of richness and intentionality. It was a journey of edification and joy!
We spent three days in training in Kentucky at the Christian Leadership Alliance conference where we learned how to enrich our leadership. We also met other leaders who work in their own country and saw their dedication to God and to their neighbors. We learned more about American culture in the field of a nonprofit and their thoughts as donors. I am really impressed with how generosity manifests itself in this culture..
Being able to see our board members again was exciting and rewarding. When you take time to get to know the people who are at the forefront of the organization’s decisions and direction, you realize that they are people committed to serving others, and especially have a genuine interest in helping vulnerable children and families in Honduras. It is honorable that these people with families, work, and other responsibilities set aside time to think, work, and make decisions in favor of the population we serve. We are very grateful for the board members and pray that God will continue to guide them and continue to give them wisdom.
On this trip we were able to meet new people who can come alongside us to strengthen our work with vulnerable children and families. Likewise, we had the pleasure of seeing those people who have already joined us and strengthened us in ministry. It is always nice to have people willing to serve others with an interest in listening and learning from the people on the mission field. This is fundamental! I firmly believe that leaders in developing countries have a lot to contribute.
I wanted to leave this paragraph about our donors at the end, not because we consider it less important, but because the attitude and fervor of our donors to give has captured our attention. The people and churches that support us do so with all their heart, hope, responsibility, and dedication. God has placed in their hearts a great sense of helping the most needy and vulnerable. One of our values at Family Life Missions is to honor our donors. Without them, the job would be difficult and perhaps not possible. We give honor and thanks to our donors and wish that God will continue to multiply them.
