An Everlasting Hope

Hope.

We hope for small things, like nice weather. “I hope it doesn’t rain tomorrow.” We hope for big things. “I hope we have enough money for groceries and the light bill.”

And then, we have Hope.

We have the eternal hope that comes through Jesus Christ. The children who live at Por Los Niños read about hope, sing about hope, wish for hope, and many have hope, because of the good work being done in the name of Jesus in Catacamas, Honduras. Many of these children have been abandoned or are considered vulnerable. Many of them come to live at PLN not having much hope. But with the tools our staff has in trauma training and holistic care, the patience of our house parents, the love of those who surround them, and the consistent help of our sponsors, these children begin to not only learn about hope—they begin to feel hope.

For 25 years Family Life Missions has had a laser focus on Por Los Niños, the residential homes where our children live in Catacamas. Over the years we have learned a lot. One of the biggest lessons we have learned is that providing homes for abandoned and vulnerable children is important, but the most important thing we can do is to get to the root of the problem. And that is where our two newer programs fill that gap.
Our Family Preservation program helps parents learn how to be a healthy, functional family. It helps keep families together and not separated. It gives parents tools and resources through workshops, mentoring, and classes. It shows them how to be the kind of family that honors God. The kind of family that God created for us.

And our Foster Care program works with local churches to find families who want to bring children into their own families to show them the love and support they may not have received from their biological family. The children live in a loving family while their own parents receive the support and care they need so they can eventually reunite as a healthy family.

As we combine all three of these vital programs: Por Los Niños Residential homes, Family Preservation, and Foster Care, we see a plan for significant growth and change for Family Life Missions and the children and families we serve. Because we are working to change family trees. We want the life of one child to change many lives in the present generation and in generations to come. One child can start a new, healthy branch on a family tree that will flourish and grow in the Light of the Lord.

This is an exciting time at Family Life Missions! Next week we will be updating our Child Sponsorship Program and introducing our supporters to other ways they can support and serve the children and families in Catacamas.

Our hope is that you will join us on this journey, or if you have already been traveling with us, that you will continue with renewed strength, resolve, and a deep commitment to partner with God and place the lonely in families.
