We know that education is one of the primary keys to helping children and families thrive. Many children are forced to leave school to work in Honduras at a young age and never complete their education. Although public schools are free, many families cannot afford the required uniforms or school supplies. Many times children must repeat grades because they have to stop and work. It takes the average child 9.4 years to complete 1st-6th grade. And this only includes 86.5% of the children, as 13.5% do not have access to education. The government does not provide free education past the 6th grade, so only 30% of Honduran children attend high school.
Our PLN Christian Bilingual School offers quality education for a small fee to cover our teaching staff. We also offer full and partial scholarships to those in need. Hands-on learning is what draws many families to our Montesorri preschool and kindergarten. This method is new to Honduras and provides an excellent start for children entering elementary school. Our PLN Christian Bilingual School currently goes through seventh grade, with new grades added each year. What began as a school for the children living on our campus has blossomed into a school open to the community. Seventy-three children are enrolled this year, and we have a waiting list! The school provides an excellent education where the bible is taught, and children thrive in an interactive and challenging environment with our bilingual staff.
Honduras has recognized us for the quality of services we give as we serve children with “standards of quality and professionalism, which allow the children we serve to grow up in optimal conditions.” In addition to core curriculum subjects, students receive computer, art, music, recreation, and Bible classes. Our PLN school is a trauma-informed environment considers each student’s needs and potential. We also offer vocational training in barber and beauty shop classes. We educate for the future.
