Alan Kelley, Board Chair

From 2011 to 2015 Mr. Kelley served as President and CEO of Midwest Energy Emissions Corp. (ME2C), an environmental clean-up company offering solutions for mercury emission control to utility boilers around the world. Before joining ME2C, Mr. Kelley was President and CEO of Grand Bahama Power Company. Prior to that, Mr. Kelley held several positions during a 10-year span at Ameren including Senior Vice President-Generation and President, Chairman & CEO of Ameren’s deregulated generating company, Ameren Energy Resources. He has many years of extensive public company experience as well as demonstrated success in multiple “turnarounds” of underperforming businesses.

An engaged community member, Mr. Kelley was Chairman of the Salvation Army-Midland Division Advisory Council, as well as President of the Board of Trustees of Christian Family Services.

Mr. Kelley has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois and an MBA from the University of Missouri.

John Kelley, Vice Chair

John Kelley is originally from Decatur, Illinois. He attended David Lipscomb College in Nashville, Tenn., before transferring to the University of Illinois and receiving a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1983. He received a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1987. He and his wife Diana are the parents of one daughter and one daughter-in-law, three sons and one son-in-law, and one grandson.

John began his career with Southern Company in 1983 as an engineer in the transmission planning department of Southern Company Services. He has progressed through various roles and is now the Director of Forecasting & Resource Planning at Alabama Power Company (APC). John is also the past Chairman of the Southeastern Electric Exchange Integrated Resource Planning Section.

John has served as a deacon in his congregation for many years. He is currently responsible for developing and administering the missions budget and also seeking out new mission efforts while confirming the validity of existing work. John and Diana have financially supported several Por Los Niños children through the years.

John Collett, Treasurer of the Board

John graduated from Lake Forest College and then Washington University. He is a computer software developer and founded Collett Software Solutions in 2012. John was introduced to the PLN mission in 2008. After participating in several work teams, he joined the board in 2012. John loves the children of PLN and has been blessed to participate in the stewardship of this mission.

Rachel Joyce, Board Member

Rachel has worked in the insurance, telecommunications and technology industry for the last 15 years. She started her career at New York Life learning the ropes of insurance sales and client relationships. At AT&T, she learned the value of problem solving and communications. At Asurion, she advanced in leadership and strategic execution. Today, Rachel is the Director of Talent Engagement programs at Asurion and is best known for leading and building programs for new or evolving corporate functions.

 

Rachel holds an undergraduate and graduate degree in business administration from Belmont University. She lives in Nashville with her husband Ryan and loves listening to podcasts, following design blogs, doing yoga and co-leading a small group at her church. Rachel has had a passion for missions for as long as she can remember and is a long-term supporter of child sponsorship programs, micro-lending and education. 

Michael Rivas, President

Michael graduated from Pepperdine University with a degree in law. He visited Por Los Niños every year for ten years before becoming Executive Director. Through those trips, Michael developed a love for Honduras and its people, and he saw firsthand the suffering of children who had experienced great pain and trauma in their lives. He became passionate about providing healthy families to children who would otherwise be alone. Michael lives in Nashville, Tennessee and is married to Sarah.

Sarah Rivas, Director of Communications

Sarah has a background in teaching and composition, with English degrees from Lipscomb University and Middle Tennessee State University. Sarah has a deep desire to serve children and has been involved in children’s ministry for fifteen years. Passionate about social justice, Sarah feels called by God to serve the children of Honduras in a way that is respectful of and empowering to the local community. Sarah lives in Nashville, Tennessee and is married to Michael.

Eric Schaefer, Director of Development

Eric is excited to be a part of the Family Life Missions team!

Eric graduated with a degree in Communications and Film from Florida State University and a Master's Degree from Columbia Seminary. He has ministered in a variety of settings including an adolescent psychiatric hospital and a para-church youth organization. He has led numerous mission trips around the world including trips to Belize, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Molokai and Budapest. Eric has spearheaded numerous capital campaigns for nonprofit work and sees fundraising for Por Los Niños as a way to allow all of us an opportunity to participate in the mission of the Kingdom of God, bringing Heaven to earth!

Eric and his wife Kim have three boys. Their entire family shares a love of travel, sports and movies.
